Description
Spotted dikkop or Cape thick-knee (Burhinus capensis) in a threatening posture used to ward intruders away from its nest. This is a ground- dwelling bird that lives in arid grasslands and desert areas in southern Africa. It is most active at dawn, dusk and during the night, when it feeds on insects, lizards and small rodents. It has long legs and prefers to run from predators, although it can fly. Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which lies in Botswana and South Africa.
