Description
Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) chasing prey in the Nossob riverbed of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Southern Africa. The Cheetah is the fastest living land mammal, reaching speeds of over 110 kilometres per hour. The animal can however only sustain this speed for short periods, after which the chase is abandoned and the cheetah must rest. The cheetah, which relies on its speed as a diurnal hunter, has a slender build, and is susceptable to injury. It must therefore be careful not to injure itself during the hunt as the consequences could be fatal.
