Description
Sperm deformity classification, illustration. All men have a few deformed sperm in their ejaculate, but an overabundance of them can mean that the man is infertile. The deformities are classified here by their location on the sperm cell, on the head, middle piece, or tail. Deformities include variations in head size and shape; bends and bulges in the middle piece; and twists, bends and variable length in the tail. Duplication mutations such as a double tail are also shown. The sperm cell at left (in magnified view) is a normal specimen.
