Description
Solar power station. The Solana Generating Station near Gila Bend, Arizona, USA, was the world's largest solar thermal parabolic trough power station when it was commissioned in 2013. It generates a total of 280 megawatts (MW) of energy, from two 140 MW steam turbine generators; enough to power 70,000 homes. The plant has a thermal storage system where molten salt stores the heat energy that can continue to turn the turbines after sunset, or if the sun goes in. The plant was built by the Spanish company Abengoa Solar.
