Description
Social feather duster worms (Bispira brunnea). This polychaete worm lives in colonies, with each worm inhabiting a tube attached to coral or rock. The worms are all clones of the first worm to arrive at the site, which reproduces asexually to surround itself with identical worms. Due to this, it is also known as the cluster duster. It feeds by extending long radioles (pink) into the water to trap passing food particles. At the slightest hint of danger these are withdrawn rapidly into the tube. Photographed in the Bahamas.
