Description
Renal blood vessels. Coloured angiogram (X-ray) of the blood vessels in a healthy left kidney (centre). At left is the spine. The large artery entering the kidney is the renal artery, which branches into many smaller capillaries inside the kidney. The capillaries form the core of glomeruli, units within the kidney that filter waste products from the blood. The waste products leave the kidney, via the ureter (tube running in front of spine), as urine. Angiography uses an injected contrast medium to show blood vessels on an X-ray.
