Description
Rainbow and anticrepuscular rays. These atmospheric phenomena have formed as a thunderstorm moves off into the distance. The setting sun generates cloud shadows which seem to converge towards the antisolar point. These 'light rays' are called anticrepuscular rays. A fainter secondary rainbow (best seen at far left) can be glimpsed on the outside of the primary bow. Rainbows are produced by refraction of sunlight in spherical water drops. Photographed in May over the River Rhine at Eglisau, northern Switzerland.
