Description
Cumulonimbus storm clouds. Sunset behind dark storm clouds in an urban area. Underneath these clouds heavy rain can be seen falling. This type of cloud, called cumulonimbus, is typical of thunderstorms. These clouds are formed from drop- lets of water that condense out of rising columns of moist air, conditions often associated with cold fronts. Cumulonimbus clouds can grow into towering masses up to 15 kilometres tall. Their interiors contain highly turbulent air draughts. The colours were enhanced by computer.
