Description
Cloud forest orchid (Telipogon papilio). This orchid is a dwarf epiphyte that grows large flowers. The orchids (Orchidaceae) are one of the most diverse families of flowering plants. There are over 20,000 species worldwide. Some grow in the ground while others (epiphytes) grow on supports such as trees and obtain their nutrition through aerial roots. Photographed in the Santa Teresa Valley, Peru.
