Cirrus cloud with altostratus. Plumes of cirrus cloud are seen in the sky in the upper foreground. Depending on their shape, these clouds are also known as Mare's Tails" or "Stringers". Cirrus is a high-altitude (6,000-12,000 metres height) ice crystal cloud which forms delicate filaments or fibres. This cloud-type is usually associated with fair weather. In the background are altostratus cloud with a typical dull, grey, layered appearance, and of medium altitude (2000-6000 metres height)."
