Satellite image showing peatlands in central Ireland, near Ballyfornan. For centries, peatlands have been drained and dug up to be used for fuel in Ireland. However, climate change has caused Ireland to focus on restoring and conserving peatlands due to their importance for removing excess carbon dioxide and it into long term storage for thousands of years. Image obtained by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 9 satellite.
