Description
Early scientific photography. Photograph showing the paper calotype negative made by Sir John Herschel of his father's telescope mounting in 1839. This was the year in which W.H.F.Talbot patented the paper-based negative-positive process known as the calotype or talbotype. The photograph was taken around the time when Sir William Herschel's telescope was being dismantled on safety grounds.
