Description
Pallas' cat (Octocolobus manul). This small cat is found in the rocky steppes of Asia, in a region stretching from the Caspian Sea through Central Asia into Tibet, Mongolia and China. It is a predatory carnivore, using its good eyesight to hunt small mammals such as mice, and also marmots and pikas. It usually hunts at night. It is about the size of a domestic cat, but it is not closely related. It is noted for its large yellow eyes and the black bars on the sides of its face. It has the longest hair of any wild cat.
