National Air and Space Museum display in Washington D.C., USA. This museum, part of the Smithsonian Institute, has the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world. On display (from left to right) are: Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis" (1927), which made the fist solo transatlantic flight; SpaceShipOne (2004), the first privately developed and piloted craft in space; Bell X-1 "Glamorous Glennis" (1947), the first supersonic aircraft; Mariner 2 (1962), the first spacecraft to study another planet; Bell XP- 59A Airacomet (1942), the first American turbojet; two nuclear missiles; and North American X-15, the first winged aircraft to achieve Mach 4, 5 and 6 and to operate higher than 30,500 metres."
