Description
Antarctic midnight Sun and fog over tents in a field camp. The Earth's axis is tilted such that Antarctica in pointing towards the Sun during the southern summer, and away from it during the winter. This means that the periods of daylight are much longer than the nights during the summer. For part of the summer the sun never sets, though it appears low in the sky at midnight. During the winter the nights are much longer than the days. Photograph of a British Antarctic Survey field camp at Sky-Hi Nunataks, Antarctica.
