Measles, also known as rubeola, is a highly infectious airborne viral disease with flu-like symptoms accompanied by fever and rash. German measles is caused by the rubella virus and symptoms include fever, swollen glands, headache and a rash. If a pregnant woman is infected with rubella during the first trimester it can cause miscarriage and birth defects.
