Description
Martian rocks, true-colour Spirit rover panorama. The curvature of the image is due to the rover's tilted position as it looks up this 1-2 metre high wall of rock. These rock patterns are being studied to discover the processes that formed them. The colours of the image were created by combining camera filters to approximate what a human would see. The enhanced false-colour image is R360/241. This 160-degree image was obtained with the panoramic camera from 9-12 February 2006, more than 700 Martian days into the rover's mission as it explored the Home Plate area of the Gusev Crater's Columbia Hills.
