Description
Martian crater floor. Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image of the floor of the Antoniadni Crater on Mars. The area seen here spans one kilometres across. It is thought that the dark areas were once channels that contained water. The channels are now higher than the surrounding ground, and so were probably filled by an erosion-resistant material after the water dried up. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on 22nd March 2009.
