Description
Vredefort Crater. Landsat 7 satellite image in infrared and visible light of Vredefort crater, South Africa. Water is blue, vegetation is green and bare land is pink. This is the largest known impact crater on Earth, with a diameter of approximately 300 kilometres. It is thought to have been created by an asteroid, measuring over 10 kilometres wide, that collided with Earth approximately 2 billion years ago. The Vaal River is seen running from centre right to left.
