Description
Mars from Curiosity. First colour image taken by NASA's Curiosity rover, showing the north wall and rim of Gale Crater in the distance. Curiosity was launched on 26th November 2011 and landed successfully on Mars on 6th August 2012. It's mission is to determine if Mars is, or was ever, able to support microbial life. This view of the Martian landscape was taken by the Mars Handheld Lens Imager (MAHLI) onboard Curiosity, on the afternoon of 6th August 2012 (EDT), the first day after landing (Sol 1).
