Leprosy. Historical medical illustration of two cases of leprosy: Fig.1: tubercular leprosy showing macular lesions (flat spots); and Fig.2: tubercular leprosy on the face. Leprosy is a neurological disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. Damage to the nerves can lead to disfiguring skin lesions, deformities, and loss of the extremities.
