Description
Killdeer chick (Charadrius vociferus). This bird is found in savannahs and deciduous forests throughout North America and in parts of South America. Females lay between 2 and 6 eggs, which are incubated by both parents for 24 to 28 days. The chicks, which are able to leave the nest soon after hatching, are not fed in the nest, but are led to a feeding area. They remain with their parents until they are able to fly, 20 to 31 days after hatching. Photographed in Michigan, USA.
