Description
ISS and Endeavour light trails (upper centre). Time-exposure image of the International Space Station (ISS, lower trail) and the Space Shuttle Endeavour (upper trail) passing from left to right and fading into the Earth's shadow. The structure at far right is part of Starhome Observatory, California, USA. The ISS orbits the Earth every 90 minutes, at an altitude of around 400 kilometres, and an average speed of 27,700 kilometres per hour. Photographed on 20 August 2007, during mission STS-118. At this point, the space shuttle was about 100 kilometres behind the ISS, preparing for re-entry.
