Corsica, France, satellite image. North is at top. Vegetation is shown in green, water in blue, and urban areas in grey. Corsica lies in the Mediterranean Sea to the south-east of France. It is one of the country's administrative regions, and has a population of around 275,000 (2005). Its capital is Ajaccio, which lies on the west coast. It is mountainous, with the tallest summit, Monte Cinto, standing at 2710 metres.
