Description
Iberian Peninsula. Satellite image of the two countries making up the Iberian Peninsula of south-western Europe (borders included). North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation is green, arid areas are brown, and snow, ice and cloud are white. Most of the peninsula is Spain, but Portugal occupies most of the western coast. Several mountain ranges (tipped with winter snow) are seen here. The largest is the Pyrenees (upper right) that separates Spain from France. Large clouds cover the western Mediterranean (right). Parts of northern Africa are across bottom. Image obtained at 11:05 UTC on 13 February 2009, by NASA's Terra satellite.
