Description
Herpes virus infected cell. Immunofluorescence deconvolution micrograph of a cell infected with a gamma herpes virus. The nuclei of this multinucleate cell are stained blue. Microtubules are red and actin is green. Microtubules and actin are protein filaments, they form the cell cytoskeleton, which gives the cell its shape and the capacity for directed movement. There are two viruses in the gamma herpes family; Epstein-Barr virus and Kaposi's sarcoma virus, both of which can cause various forms of cancer.
