Description
Heart tissue, 3D fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. Stacked images showing beta (adrenergic) receptors (red) clustered around the nucleus (blue) of a myofibril (muscle cell) in the heart tissue (green) of a heart failure patient. Beta receptors respond to adrenalin, causing a sympathetic (fight or flight) response. This makes the heart beat harder when adrenalin levels rise. Magnification: x900 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
