Description
Heart cells producing smooth muscle, fluorescence deconvolution micrograph. Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight tissues, cellular structures and proteins: actin (green), cell nuclei (blue), smooth muscle (red). Actin is a contractile muscle protein, but here it is being produced by a heart cell to form a peripheral adhesion site. Adhesion sites are part of the way muscles and other tissues anchor themselves to the surrounding tissues.
