Description
Glacial valleys, Canada, satellite image. Thin ice (pale grey) covers the lakes in these valleys that were carved through these snow-covered mountains (white) by glaciers. This is the Tagish Lake area in British Columbia, Canada, around 200 kilometres north of Juneau, Alaska, USA. The area lies in the Coast Mountains where accumulated ice forms into glaciers. The glaciers were more numerous around 10,000 years ago in the last Ice Age, which is possibly when these valleys were formed. Image acquired on 8 May 2000 by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor on NASA's Landsat 7 satellite.
