Description
First World War military hospital. Wounded US soldiers knitting in hospital during the First World War (1914-1918). The US entered the war on 6 April 1917, playing a crucial role in helping Britain and France to defeat Germany and its allies. During the war, Americans of all ages were asked by the US government to 'knit for victory'. The resulting wool socks, sweaters, and other garments were sent to the frontlines to keep US soldiers warm. This is the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, USA. Photographed in 1918.
