Description
Arthritis patient being treated in a fever machine, or radiotherm. This machine artificially increased the patient's body temperature up to 40 degrees Celsius in order to kill germs. The heat was produced by short wave radio waves that were concentrated between two condenser plates either side of the patient's body. Photographed at Gallinger Municipal Hospital, Washington DC, USA, on 15th November 1935.
