Description
False-colour Voyager 2 close-up of clouds in Saturn's northern hemisphere. The yellow ovals are three large storms with bright centres, indicating a high-altitude haze layer above them. The largest of the spots is about 5000 km long & has an anti- cyclonic (anticlockwise) motion that reaches speeds of 30 metres per second. There is a distinct difference in the hazes & clouds on opposite sides of the jet stream (wavy yellow band) to the right of the three spots. The image was recorded through Voyager 2's green, violet, & ultraviolet filters on August 19, 1981, from a range of 7.1 million km.
