Description
Cumulus cloud. Sky filled with fair-weather" cumulus clouds over water at sunset, stretching as far as the horizon. "Fair-weather" cumulus are small clouds of no great vertical extent and associated with mild weather. Cumulus clouds have rounded tops and a "cotton wool" appearance. Their flat bases, as seen here, show a clear condensation level at the level at which the cloud forms. Cumulus may be produced at a frontal system boundary or as a result of thermal cell activity, with a low-altitude cloud base at between 300 and 1,000 metres (1,000 and 3,000 feet). The depth varies generally between 500 and 1,500 metres (1,500 and 5,000 feet)."
