Description
Saturn and moons. Composite image of Saturn and four of its moons, superimposed on a starfield. The moons of the ringed planet seen here are: Titan (lower centre); Rhea (upper left); Dione (lower right); Tethys (top left). Saturn has at least eighteen moons. Some of these (including the ones seen here) are so large that if they orbited the Sun they would be considered planets - Titan is larger than Mercury. Saturn mostly consists of hydrogen and helium gas, whilst its moons are made mostly of frozen water with some rocky material. The rings of Saturn are made of orbiting ice and dust particles.
