Description
The cliffs of Moher, formerly the ancient wall of Thomond, in County Clare, Ireland. The 600ft (182 metres) high cliffs are composed of Namurian sandstone & flagstones from the Carboniferous period (280-345 million years ago). They are an important wild life sanctuary for birds and small animals. In 1988 the cliffs and several hundred metres inland and out to sea were declared a protected area for birds. There are some 30 species of birds including puffins, gulls, shags, ravens and hawks
