Description
Illustration of chromosomes in metaphase (centre) and anaphase (right and left) of mitosis (nuclear division). Each chromosome is composed of two sister chromatids. During metaphase the chromosomes line up along the centre of the cell. At anaphase microtubules (yellow) attach to the chromosomes and pull the chromatids apart to opposite poles of the cell.
