Description
Anaphase of cell mitosis. Light micrograph of a whitefish cell (Coregonus sp.) undergoing cell division (mitosis). A cell in the latter stages of mitosis, known as anaphase, is seen here. Individual chromosomes can be seen within the cell as black thread like structures (at centre). The chromosomes have split into two and are being pulled to either extremity of the cell by a tubular structure known as a spindle (not visible here). Once separated, membranes will develop around each daughter" nucleus and the cell will split into two genetically identical cells. Magnification: x315 at 35mm size."
