Description
Cell division. Fluorescent structured illumination micrograph (SIM) of proteins in a dividing cell in the late anaphase stage. The chromosomes (blue) have split into sister chromatids that are moving to opposite poles of the cell. The proteins are colour-coded: mitotic spindle (tubulin, green); motor protein kinesin (red); and chromosomes (blue). This is a Drosophila S6 cell. This image was obtained using structured illumination microscopy, a technique that allows light microscopy to bypass the resolution limits imposed by the diffraction of light. This is OMX structured illumination microscopy, which uses 15 orientations and Fourier transform computer analysis.
