Description
An assortment of cereals. A cereal is a grass grown for its edible starch seeds. Cereals store easily, and contain about 75 percent carbohyrate and 10 percent protein. In 1984, world production exceeded 1.8 billion tonnes. If all the world's cereal crop was consumed directly by the human population, everyone could obtain an adequate supply of carbohydrate and protein; however a large proportion of cereal production, especially in affluent nations, is used as animal feed to boost the production of meat, milk, butter and eggs.
