Description
Biodegradable electronic implant. Photograph of an electronic circuit being implanted under the skin of an animal. The circuit is made from extremely thin layers of silicon and magnesium compounds that dissolve more easily in water than standard thickness components. The device is encapsulated in a layer of silk which delays the process of bio degradation depending on thickness. These so-called 'transient electronics' may one day be used as temporary medical implants or drug delivery systems. Built by the Rogers Research Group, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
