Description
MODEL RELEASED. ATLAS detector, CERN. Technician inside the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) detector during the insertion of a calorimeter. A calorimeter is used to measure the energy of particles in the detector. ATLAS is one of six detector experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. It is a broad-range detector that measures all particles and physical processes that emerge during proton collisions within the LHC. The LHC is designed to create high energy substances, such as quark-gluon plasma, thought to exist very early in the universe's history. Photographed in July 2006.
