Description
Rings of Uranus. Artwork of particles making up one of the rings of Uranus. Part of the planet is seen in upper frame. The rings of Uranus are very dark and not visible from Earth. There are eleven small rings in total, and they are only a few kilometres wide. Uranus is a gas giant planet, and is the seventh out from the Sun. Its mass is about 14.5 times that of the Earth. It lies some 2,870 million kilometres from the Sun, completing an orbit once every 84 years. Uranus is unusual in that its equator is tilted at an angle of over 90 degrees to its orbital plane. This gives it the impression of rolling along its orbital path.
