Description
Argentine National Observatory telescope. This institution was founded in 1871, with help from US astronomers. The telescope shown here is a 60-inch reflector that was installed in 1922. It was designed and built by the Warner and Swasey Company of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The large wheels are used to rotate and point the telescope when making observations. As of 2010, this telescope forms part of the Bosque Alegre Astrophysical Station, located in the hills near Cordoba, the city where the Argentine National Observatory was founded. Photograph published in 1922 in the US magazine Popular Astronomy.
