The young grow from 30 centimetres to 1.2 metres in length over two years, before leaving the nest area. This examination is being carried out by Samuel Martin, director of La Ferme aux Crocodiles (founded 1994), a crocodile farm and research centre at Pierrelatte in southern France. Photographed in 2011.
