Description
1874 transit of Venus. Diagram of the apparent internal contact during the 1874 transit of Venus. Part of Venus is at top left, the Sun is yellow. Several expeditions were organised to different locations to observe the 1874 transit. The combined results helped established the distance of Venus and the Sun, and hence the size of the solar system. Taken from from Henry Chamberlain Russell's book Observations on the transit of Venus, 9 December 1874: made at stations in New South Wales.
