Description
Saturn's rings. Cassini spacecraft image of Saturn's outer C ring. Saturn's rings are mainly made of particles of water ice, ranging from microns to metres in diameter. The dark gap is known as the Maxwell gap. The portion shown orbits at a distance of 81,000 kilometres. The image was captured when Cassini was around 840,000 kilometres from Saturn.
