Description
International Space Station (ISS) orbiting above the Earth. Dark solar panels, seen extending out from the ISS, provide power for the Station. The modules (from top to bottom) are Unity, Zarya and Zvezda. A Progress supply ship is docked to the Zvezda module at the near end of the ISS. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, ESA, the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres and will be over 100 metres in length. It has been manned since October 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004. Photographed from the orbiting Space Shuttle Atlantis during mission STS-106 (8-20 September 2000) to continue constructing the ISS.
