Description
Crude oil tanker. Propellor blade (white, lower centre) and rudder (vertical, right) of a Suezmax crude carrier. Suezmax carriers are so-called as they are the maximum size of vessel able to navigate the Suez Canal. The propellor is used to move the ship through the water, whilst the rudder controls direction. Crude oil carriers are among the largest tankers, with ultra-large crude carriers (ULCCs) reaching over 440,000 deadweight metric tons (DWT). Suezmax tankers are generally between 120,000 to 200,000 DWT. Photographed at Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea, the world's second largest shipyard.
