Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Fruit fly compound eye and setae between ommatidia (Drosophila melanogaster). Drosophila is a genus of fly from the family Drosophilidae. The species Drosophila melanogaster is known as the common fruit fly or vinegar fly. Drosophila melanogaster is widely used for biological research in studies of genetics, physiology, microbial pathogenesis, and evolution. This fly can be an agricultural or household pest. Magnification: x195 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
