Description
Insects of Surinam. 18th-century artwork from 'Metamorphosibus Insectorum Surinamensium' (1726), a work by the German nature illustrators Maria Sybilla Merian (1647-1717) and Johanna Helena Herolt (1668-1773). Surinam (now called Suriname) is a country in northern South America. This artwork (Plate 21) shows a variety of insects on a flowering and fruiting passionflower (Passiflora) vine.
